Koumou Emeka Armel, Bolendo Boussi Platini, Okouma Paulin, Motakouela Jidrick are all rangers resident at Mbomo and working at Odzala Kokoua national park. Following a mission order of October 28, 2016 they were on a 15 days’ patrol at the center-north sector of the park. Few days before the end of their mission, they discovered an elephant carcass with two ivory tusks, cut the tusks into pieces and put in their bags. On November 10, 2016 they informed their hierarchy that they were carrying ivory tusks and a vehicle was planned to pick them from Komo to Mielekouka. Instead of waiting for the vehicle they separated into two groups with different itineraries: two went to Sembe and two to Makoua with ivory hidden inside the bag. At Keita check point, rangers caught them and after search discovered the ivory and the two others going to Sembe were then also arrested.
