Abstract

On the 4 June 2016, elements of the conservation service of the Forestry and Wildlife control post, Koumela, received reliable information about an ongoing illegal activity in the quarter of Nouveau Camp-Libongo. The elements exploited the information and first ambushed certain people in possession of bush meat, before proceeding to arrest the accused who was in possession of 07 pieces of elephant meat. The accused claimed that he took out some elephant meat after certain hunters, had killed the elephant, with the objective of paying his school fees. The meat was sold by public auction as per the law and the proceeds; the sum of 5500 was saved in the public treasury. After his offence report was established, he was forwarded before the state attorney of the court of First Instance Yokadouma for prosecution.
