Abstract

On the 20 June 2016, Bertoua military officials received reliable information about an ongoing illegal poaching activity in the zone of Libongo, sub division of Salapoumbe. The military officials mobilized a squadron of 175 gendarmes who left Bertoua to the said zone to arrest the traffickers. Eighteen (18) poachers were arrested and taken to Bertoua. On the 3 July 2016, following further information gotten during preliminary investigation, the same military officials left Bertoua to arrest two (02) additional poachers in this light. They all pleaded not guilty and denied being in possession of any arms or carrying out poaching activities. Some of them were not arrested with any weapons but the information gotten by the military officials indicated that they are habitual poachers. The military officials interrogated the dealers and after drafting, their offence reports forwarded them before the State attorney of the Court of First Instance Yokadouma to answer charges against them.
