On the 17 June 2018, elements of the customs service in Lokomo arrested the accused DJOULI MBARGA Florine following a daily checkpoint routine in that zone. The elements stopped a public transportation bus leaving the zone in which the accused was aboard. She was found in possession of a bag containing 4 elephant ivories weighing 1kg each. The accused acknowledged ownership of the ivories. She claimed that she arrived Lokomo from Yaoundé to buy non-forest products. While in a Baka camp to request for the said products, a central African approached her proposing elephant ivories for sale. She claimed she did not know the value of the products and bought them for 25.000XAF instead of 40.000XAF proposed by the dealer. She further claimed she denounced the contents of her bag to the luggage agent and if she was aware of the fact that it was illegal she would not have done so. Upon reaching Lokomo, she was arrested by the customs officers who had obtained information about the ivories. After interrogation, she was forwarded together with the seized items as exhibits before the State Attorney of the Court of First Instance Yokadouma for hearing.
