Abstract

In January 2016, the conservation service of the Boumba Bek National Park arrested the accused Ndongo Basile and Yelima Gaston for poaching two (2) elephants in the said park and extracted their ivories. The co-offender Alea Florent furnished them with the weapon, a hunting gun needed to poach the elephants. During interrogation, they all accepted criminal responsibility and confessed committing the offences as charged. After drafting, their offence reports they were forwarded together with the seized ivories as exhibits before the State attorney of the Court of First Instance Yokadouma for prosecution.

NDONGO Basile and YELIMA Gaston were sentenced to six (6) months closed imprisonment term each while ALEA Florent was sentenced one (1) year suspended imprisonment term within 5 years. They to pay 28.300 XAF as costs, and 2.980.000XAF as civil damages to the state of Cameroon through the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife.
