Abstract

At noon on March 1, 2014, Shijiang S. drove his black Mercedes-Benz sedan to transport an ivory returning to Langfang City, Hebei Province. He was seized while passing through the Lujijie Rongwu Expressway Public Security Checkpoint of Binzhou Public Security Bureau. The police of Binzhou Forest Public Security Bureau questioned him on the same day and detained the ivory. On March 14, 2014, it was identified that the material involved in the case was ivory owned by Asian elephants or African elephants (Asian elephants were under first class state protection, and African elephants were listed in Appendix I of CITES); the value of the case involved is RMB 250,000. After weighing, the net weight of the ivory involved was 11.4 kg. Shijiang S. confessed to having illegally transported rare and endangered wild animals’ manufactured products.
