Abstract

Following the order of the examining magistrate on the 27 June 2016 and at the request of the State Attorney, the accused persons MVONDO Jean, KPWOMBO Marcel, AKONO KEA, TASSI Jean Paul, FOUMANE NAOMIE Rose, NLEME YEME NNA Marie, DOUMVE Dina and BEZENGUE Bienvenu were summoned before the court of First Instance, Djoum to answer charges of illegal detention of firearm and ammunitions, hunting without permit or license, and complicity. On October 14, 2015, MVONDO Jean and ZEMENA'A went to the bush with a rifle and ammunition to carry out hunting. Upon arrival, the latter disappeared into the bush and was nowhere to be found. Preliminary investigation was opened, and it led to the arrest of MVONDO Jean, KPWOMBO Marcel, AKONO KEA and BEZENGUE Bienvenu in possession of arms and ammunition. During interrogation, they exposed that TASSI Jean Paul, FOUMANE NAOMIE Rose, NLEME YEME NNA Marie, DOUMVE Dina and BILO'O Josiane were the owners of the weapons and ammunitions with which with which they usually use to carry out hunting on their account. At the end of interrogation, the accused persons were transmitted to the state attorney for prosecution. Appearing during trial, the accused persons NLEME YEME NNA Marie and FOUMANE NAOMIE Rose pleaded guilty whereas BILO’O Josiane pleaded not guilty and the other accused failed to show up during the court proceedings.

The accused persons FOUMANE NAOMIE Rose, MVONDO Jean, KPWOMBO Marcel, AKONO KEA, TASSI Jean Paul, DOUMVE Dina and BEZENGUE Bienvenu were sentenced to six (06) months suspended imprisonment term within three years, to each pay 100,000 XAF for fines, 314,840 XAF for costs and 1,957,000 XAF as civil damages to the State of Cameroon through the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife.
