In January 2018, Mayombe Kokoumbou Erick was arrested in Bokanga camp in possession of two machetes. Previously, with two suspected accomplices, he had unsuccessfully tried to kill an elephant, but only injured the elephant, whereupon the animal turned on its attackers, causing mass panic in the course of which the accused fled into the forest and got lost. In the woods he hid a PMAK type weapon and 20 pieces of ammunition and later on turned up at the camp.
