The accused KONGLO ETOA Daniel was arrested in the central town of Djoum driving a TOYOTA pick-up vehicle with matriculation No: CE 4176 E by agents of the conservation service in Djoum accompanied by elements of the national gendarmerie brigade of the locality. On board this vehicle was ABOLO NGONG Joseph Tristan. In course of controlling the vehicle, the accused persons were caught carrying two live crocodiles hidden among the luggage found in the vehicle. During interrogation, the accused ABOLO NGONG Joseph Tristan admitted that the two crocodiles discovered in the vehicle belongs to him and he captured them in MBOUMA, a locality around Mintom. The totally protected animal species were destined to be sold and the proceeds used to resolve his problems as in his capacity as an eco-guard, he has spent more than two months without a salary. KONGLO ETOA Daniel declared he is only transporting the luggage and that ABOLO NGONG Joseph Tristan is the owner of the protected species. But investigation revealed that KONGLO ETOA Daniel has previously been the subject of an investigation in which he was heard as an accused in this type of transport of protected species. There was sufficient evidence to prove that the accused ABOLO NGONG Joseph Tristan was the owner of the crocodiles and that KONGLO ETOA Daniel was an accomplice to the detention and transportation of these totally protected animal species. At the close of interrogations, they were transmitted before the State Attorney for prosecution. The two crocodiles seized from them was handed over to the Mvog-Betsi Zoo-botanical garden.
