On the 3 March 2016, the head of the South Antenna of the Dja conservation service received reliable anonymous information on an ongoing illegal wildlife activity in that zone. A team was set up in this regard and after exploiting this information, elements of the conservation service arrested Salla Nguelle Réne. He confessed carrying out hunting on a large-scale. He further declared Atyam Elemva as the sponsor the hunting activity who furnished the gun, ammunitions and hunting provisions to Salla. The proceeds, 8 ivory tusks were put in a bag and he sent it them to be kept in the residence of Aso’o. Following the arrest of Salla Nguelle, the elements proceeded to arrest Asso’o and seized the ivories, guns and ammunitions. Atyam acknowledged giving a gun to Salla, who requested it for game hunting. Salla claimed the hunt was unsuccessful and he picked the ivories on his way back from the forest. Following interrogations, together with the seized items, they were all transmitted to the State Attorney for prosecution.

ASSO’O Samuel was found not guilty based on insufficient incriminating evidence against him and was discharged and acquitted. Atyam and Salla were both sentenced to suspended imprisonment terms of two (2) and three (3) months respectively within three (3) years, to pay 393.300 XAF for fines & costs and 3.500.000 XAF as damages to the State of Cameroon represented by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife.
