Abstract

The head of the South Antenna of the Dja Biosphere Reserve, OKALE Robert challenged the judgment in default No. 244 / COR of 12/08/2015 by the Court of First Instance of Djoum concerning the accused persons Djadaye Lucie and Eteme Eloundou Celestin. They were prosecuted before the Court of First Instance for complicity in the illegal hunting and killing of totally protected class A, B and C animal species. They were each accorded mitigating circumstances for being primary offenders and were sentenced to pay 10,000 XAF for fines each and both pay the sum of 31,300 XAF for costs. No civil damages were awarded. The conservation service which constituted as the civil party during the trial contested the judgement for these damages to be awarded as requested during the trial. The appeal was admitted in its form by the court and the civil damages were awarded.
