Abstract

In July 2017, the accused MINLA MEBALE Francis acquired a hunting gun from the family to carry out a hunting trip in order to solve certain financial problems. Using the ammunitions he had acquired, he killed two hares, two monkeys and two birds in a protected area. On his way back, he was apprehended by eco guards who were on patrol. During interrogation, the accused acknowledged committing the offences as charged and pleaded guilty. His confession was corroborated by the discovery in his possession of a hunting rifle and the booty of his expedition in the forest in the UFA SOCIB managed by S.F.I.D.

The accused was sentenced to three (03) months’ suspended imprisonment term within three years, to pay 50.000 XAF for fines, 48.840 XAF for costs, and 600.000 XAF as civil damages to the state of Cameroon through the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife. In failure to pay to pay the fines and costs, the accused will spend additional six (06) months imprisonment.
