Abstract

On August 20, 2016, Mekazoe César and Mbembe Eric, two Congolese DRC individuals resident in Ouesso took a taxi at Motonda village to Ouesso. At the PK17 check point, they were arrested by rangers with a suitcase containing four ivory tusks. Interrogated on the spot, Mekazoe César declared having killed two elephants with a war weapon (type PMK) that he hid in the forest. Mbembe Eric denied being accomplice of Mekazoe. Mekazoe brought the rangers to the forest where they discovered the PMK weapon that served to kill the elephants and belonging to Mekazoe who bought it with ammunition in Brazzaville during the 04 March 2012 events. Mekazoe César and Mbembe Eric were brought before the state prosecutor who charged them of killing of elephants, illegal possession of war weapon and ammunition, illicit circulation with ivory tusks and complicity of killing of elephants and sent them to court for trial.
