Abstract

On 21 November 2010, the accused went on a big hunting trip to Mobemba forest, armed with a 12-gauge Simplex type rifle and a 458 rifle belonging to residents of their village. After walking two kilometres in this forest, they killed an elephant, which they slaughtered and smoked on the spot. When they returned to the camp with three bags of smoked meat, the two hunters were caught by the servants who belonged to a project to manage the forest's fringe areas.

The defendants were sentenced to 12 (twelves) months imprisonment and a fine of XAF 1,200,000 (one million two hundred thousand) each. They were ordered to pay jointly the sum of XAF 1,000,000 (one million) as civil damages. The imprisonment in default of payment was set to the minimum.
