The accused AMOUGOU Jean Claude was summoned to appear before the Court of First Instance, Djoum, to respond to charges of illegal killing of protected animal species. That on the 1st December 1988, in the locality of Lélé, the accused killed protected animal species in a zone prohibited from hunting without a hunting permit. During the hearing, the accused continuously failed to appear before the court and the court took notice of the fact that, the accused has a criminal record. He had previously been convicted for a twelve (12) months suspended imprisonment terms on the 01 April 1986 by the Court of First Instance, Sangmelima, for poaching. Considering that the prescription period for the suspended sentence had not yet elapsed and the accused committed the same crime within the stipulated period, the court revoked the suspended sentence of 12 months imprisonment terms earlier accorded by the Court of First Instance, Sangmelima, and issued a new severe sentence against the accused.
