On the 12/08/2015, custom officials of Idenau seized a bag containing elephant tusks belonging in aboat called GIDEON belonging to a company called Lophombo PLC. One of the customs officials saw the boat with four loaded bags, approached the boat and asked one of the accused persons who was in charge of the goods had been declared. His reply was negative. She asked what was inside and he claimed they were bags of shoes and the others were fish. She asked for the bags to be brought to the office. Upon getting there and opening the bags, she discovered that they were elephant tusks. The custom officials informed the Regional delegate of Forestry and Wildlife who sent elements to carry out further investigation. It was discovered that the company Lophombo PLC belonged to the accused persons, CHIA Frederick, NKEMNO Joseph KOHMENO & UKA UKEGBU. They all pleaded not guilty. They claimed they are workers for the company and cannot be liable for good that customers may transport. Their statements were recorded and a joint MINFOF and Customs report was established to that effect. The Regional Delegate transmitted the offence report and accused persons to the State Attorney for prosecution.
