The accused, NJOYA AHMADU was summoned by the State Attorney to appear before the court to respond to charges of illegal detention and circulation of trophies of totally protected animal species. That on the 19 January 2008, the accused was arrested in Mintom during a mixed patrol by elements of the police brigade in Mintom and those of the South antenna of the conservation services of the of Dja biosphere reserve. He was arrested while on a motorbike on the way to LELE in possession of seven (07) pieces of mandrill, eighteen (18) legs of Bay duiker, four (04) legs of Yellow-backed duiker and two (02) two blue duikers. During interrogation, he acknowledged the facts and declared he has been using traps to catch and collect the animals (bushmeat) for about eight (8) years without a permit and a certificate of origin. The items seized from the accused was sold through public auctioning. The receipt of the sales, the report regarding the sales and investigation report no. 18/MINFOF/DFAP/ABO-SPM/SC/AS of 18 June 2008 drawn by the conservation service of the Dja Biosphere reserve were respectively admitted into evidence. At the close of interrogations, he was transmitted before the State Attorney for prosecution.
