Abstract

In April 2014, the conservation service of Minkebe reserve in the Republic of Gabon arrested three suspects named, EMANE Arnaud, DAWAYE Dieudonné and AKONO Fabrice for elephant poaching in that Park. The suspects admitted the offence and EMANE Arnaud further identified the sponsor of the poaching activity, his brother-in-law based in Lele, South Region and gave his resident details. He furnished hunting guns and food for subsistence. Emane’s statement was supported by the other accused persons and DAWAYE Dieudonné further reiterated that Ekom sent them out to hunt while he remained back home to transport items of gold miners in Lele. It was based on that information that the accused, Ekom Javier was intercepted on 2 April 2014 by the Wildlife and Forestry control post of Mintom.
