Abstract

On the night of 24 October 2014, police elements intercepted the accused Nkoumou Zili Paulin, on his motor bike in the town of Djoum. The police proceeded to search the accused person’s luggage systematically and found 9 elephant tails in his bag. He acknowledged possession of the elephant tails and explained he bought them from some Pygmies (Indigenous people) in the village of Elig Mellen while passing through that village. He further confessed carrying out large scale hunting the Gabon sector of the Tri national of Dja Odzala and Minkebe (TRIDOM) landscape where he killed 13 elephants, across the Ayina border River. He further admitted that he is aware that the aforementioned activities are all illegal but he still practices it none regardless. After his interrogation report was established, together with the seized ivory products he was brought before the State attorney for prosecution.
