Abstract

In July 2018, Motossa Alexis was coming back from fishing and was tired of eating fish every time. He then decided to carry out trap hunting in order to consume bushmeat. While he was in forest, he smelt something that decaying and he started looking for the animal that was rotting in order to know the specie. He then found an elephant carcass and removed the two ivory tusks. He went back to the camp and collected the product of fishing. The following day, he decided to go to Ouesso in a taxi with the ivory tusks in order to get a potential buyer. At PK17 check point, Motossa Alexis was arrested by rangers.

Motossa Alexis was sentenced to eight months imprisonment, XAF 200,000 (two hundred thousand) as fines and XAF 1,500,000 (one million five hundred thousand) as damages and to pay court fees; The war weapon should be given back to the military zone No 05 and the ivory to the wildlife administration. The Imprisonment in default of payment was fixed to eight months for the recovery of fines, two months for court fees and damages.
