On 28 November 2000 a consignment arrived at Heathrow from the Cameroons on a Swissair flight via Zurich. The consignor was Mrs Monie and the consignee and importer the appellant. The consignment contained for the most part frozen cassava leaves and indeed that was how the accompanying documents described it.
The Accused were arrested at Kyebando, Kawempe Division in Kampala District and were taken to Kampala CPS. The Accused were found to be in possession of specimen belonging to animals categorized as protected species contrary to the laws of the country.

The Appellant was found in a vehicle in possession of ivory without a valid wildlife use right. He was convicted of the same and it was also ordered that he be deported from Uganda. He was sentence to 2 years and 15 days having considered the time he spent on remand which was 11 months and 15 days.
The Accused were arrested at Royal Circuit Truck and Queens mile in Kasese District in the Queen Elizabeth National Park wildlife protected area without permission.
