The Honduran Curly hair tarantula is a species protected under CITES and Council Regulation (EC) No 338/97 on theprotection of wild fauna and flora (“the EC Regulation”). This European Court of Justice (ECJ) case concerns the interpretation of Article 8(5) of the EC Regulation.
This case involved a string of litigation concerning an application for an injunction and declaration to restrain Japanese whaling in the Australian Whale Sanctuary adjacent to Antarctica. The case was brought by conservation group, the Human Society International (HSI), against the Japanese company, Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha Ltd.

In April 2014, the conservation service of Minkebe reserve in the Republic of Gabon arrested three suspects named, EMANE Arnaud, DAWAYE Dieudonné and AKONO Fabrice for elephant poaching in that Park.
On the 10 July 2013, the conservation service of the Dja Biosphere reserve effected a targeted anti-poaching patrol during which one the accused persons, Guiatin Didier was arrested leaving the Mengame Wildlife reserve. He admitted hunting in the said protected area in collaboration with Mengatta Franck and Foumane Simplice.
On January 17 2015, the head of the South Antenna of the Dja Biosphere reserve received reliable information on trafficking of trophies of totally protected species in the town of Djoum, South Region at an inn called “auberge Jeannete”.
On May 30 2014, Ecogardes of the conservation service of Dja effected an anti-poaching patrol and found the accused, Obam Obam Marcelin in a forest located in NKOLADENFACK, South Region. He was cooking and after a systematic search was carried out, a hunting gun and ammunitions and some elephant meat were found.
On the 22 February 2017, the accused, Djembo Paul a well-known hunter approached Djibril Karimou and gave him 2 ivory tusks. Sameloe Dieudonné approached the two accused persons dressed as a ranger, and seized the tusks. He then proceeded to sell them to Souaibou.
