On October 13, 2017, Water and Forets administration officials were informed that individuals residing in the towns of Ndendé and Mouila were killing, possessing, transporting and trading in trophies of fully protected animal species and that a transaction of the so-called products was to be made in a motel in Mouila. On 16 October 2017, Water and Forests agents together with military officials and with support from NGO Conservation Justice went to the area where they apprehended Maganga Koumba Corsini, Ndembi Manfoumbi Brice and Nziengui Gaël in possession of three panther skins, one elephant tail and one leopard skin who were trying to sell to Moubamba Bibalou Théo, and Koumba Mouketou Basile and Diallo Ousmane. On the first instance judgment of 23 November 2017, the court sentenced Maganga Koumba Corsini, Manfoumbi Patrick, Moubamba Bibalou Théo, Ndembi Manfoumbi Brice and Koumba Mouketou Basile to six months imprisonment, 3 months of which were suspended and fined XAF 200,000 (two hundred thousand) ; also sentenced Koumba Mouketou Basile and Diallo Ousmane to 6 months imprisonment, 4 months of which were suspended and fined XAF 100,000 (one hundred thousand); finally sentenced Koumba Mouketou Basile to 1 month imprisonment; condemns the defendants to pay the sum of XAF 200000 (two hundred thousand) as damages and interests; also condemns defendants at the expense; orders the confiscation of sealed objects and the expulsion of Diallo Ousmane from the national territory.
