On January 17 2015, the head of the South Antenna of the Dja Biosphere reserve received reliable information on trafficking of trophies of totally protected species in the town of Djoum, South Region at an inn called “auberge Jeannete”. A team was set up which descended to the said location and arrested the accused, EKOUMOU Joseph and a certain ELANG Francoise flagrante delicto with 4 Gorilla and 1 Chimpanzee skulls. An offence report was established and together with the trophies was forwarded before the State attorney.

He was found guilty of the illegal detention and circulation of trophies of protected animal species and was sentenced to (02) months fixed term imprisonment, to pay 129.650 XAF for fines and costs and 500.000 XAF as damages to the State of Cameroon represented by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife.
