The appellants were convicted own their pleas of conspiring to commit an offence of illegal hunting of a rhinoceros, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition in the magistrate court. They were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment each for count 1 and 4 years imprisonment each for count 3.

This was an appeal against the decision of the Magistrate’s court to convict and sentence the appellants for unlawful Possession of Prescribed Trophy Contrary to section 130(2) (a) and 86 of the Zambia Wildlife Act.

On the 12 October 2015, during a mission of ecological monitoring in the Dja biosphere reserve, a team of ecoguards caught red-handed four persons (MVOMO Arsene Brice, OYANE MVONDO Pierre Aimé, EKOO EVINA Gédéon Delors, MBALLA MESSI Kilian) the fifth person who was not identified escaped.

On December 08 2015, YANDA Emmanuel was arrested in Doume in the East region in possession of an elephant tail, two gorilla skulls, a chimpanzee skull and the skin of a non identified animal without a certificate of origin.

On the 16 April 2013, ATTA Edwige was arrested in a protected area situated in the locality of Libongo by elements of the conservation service, in illegal possession of chimpanzee meat, giant pangolin meat, Deer meat and hunting material.

AKOUMA Jean Marie was arrested in the Campo Ma'an National Park without authorization and in possession of a hunting gun. He was arrested by elements of the conservation service of Campo Ma'an national park with a chimpanzee that he killed in the park during a hunting party.

On the 03 June 2015, in the locality of Edea, BANY Simon was by elements of the conservation service in possession of a chimpanzee skull hidden in a bag he was carrying. During interrogations, he acknowledged committing the offences as charged and pleaded guilty.

On the 25 August 2015 in the locality of Pouma, elements of the conservation service arrested the accused, BITJOKA Jean Marie in illegal possession of skulls of chimpanzees, gorillas and other unidentified monkeys. He was about to commercialize them at the time of his arrest and was void of any identity document.
